Columbia releases "September Morn" album.

JANUARY 17, 1980
Filming of "The Jazz Singer," Neil's first motion picture, starring Neil, Laurence Olivier, and Lucie Arnaz, takes place in New York and California.

"You Don't Bring Me Flowers" is nominated for a grammy in the "Pop Vocal - Duo, Duet, Or Chorus" category.

FEBRUARY 27, 1980
Neil and Barbra Streisand appear on the Grammy Awards Show, singing "You Don't Bring Me Flowers," the nominee in both the "Record Of The Year" and "Best Pop Vocal - Duo, Duet, Or Chorus" categories.

MARCH 3, 1980
Sidney J. Furie is fired as "The Jazz Singer" director.

MARCH 7, 1980
While on hiatus from shooting "The Jazz Singer," Neil attends an Eagles concert at The Forum.

MARCH 10, 1980
Richard Fleisher takes over direction of "The Jazz Singer."

MARCH 13, 1980
"September Morn" album is certified gold.

APRIL 2, 1980
"The Jazz Singer" concert scenes are filmed at The Pantages Theater in Hollywood. Neil performs "Summerlove," "Hey Louise," and "America" before an audience of 2700 fans and movie extras. Sir Laurence Olivier receives a five-minute standing ovation when Neil introduces him upon his arrival at the theater.

APRIL 5, 1980
Columbia releases "The Good Lord Loves You" and "Jazz Time" single.

APRIL 9, 1980
Neil is scheduled to appear at Show-A-Rama 23 in Kansas City to promote "The Jazz Singer," but the appearance is canceled at the last minute.

APRIL 25, 1980
"The Jazz Singer" filming returns to Breed St. Temple in Boyle Heights for the close-ups of Neil singing "Kol Nidre."

MAY 1, 1980
Neil and his band perform at "The Jazz Singer" wrap party.

MAY 9, 1980
"September Morn" album is certified platinum.

MAY 14, 1980
"The Jazz Singer" is previewed at the Cannes Film Festival, and is met with rave reviews. Neil surprises the crowd with a personal appearance, after which he and Marcia are invited by Lord and Lady Laurence Olivier to visit their palazzo in Venice.

JUNE 1, 1980
Neil and Barbra Streisand perform "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" at the Pavilion Concert, "A Tribute to Alan and Marilyn Bergman."

NOVEMBER 1, 1980
Capitol releases "Love On The Rocks" and "Acapulco" single.

NOVEMBER 29, 1980
Capitol releases "The Jazz Singer" album. Songs are from the Motion Picture. Release shipped platinum.

DECEMBER 17, 1980
"The Jazz Singer," world premiere is held at Plitt's Theater in Century City, California.

DECEMBER 19, 1980
"The Jazz Singer" premieres in The Ziegfield Theater New York City.

JANUARY 1981
Playboy Magazine publishes feature article, "Checking In."

JANUARY 14, 1981
"The Jazz Singer" album is certified gold.

Time Magazine publishes feature article, "Bandmaster of the Mainstream."

Neil Diamond hired 27 buses to come by after one of his concerts in Sydney and take people from the auditorium back to the center of town. It seems that on that particular night, public transportation stopped at 9 p.m. But Diamond got his non-driving audience back to town.
