“Moonlight Rider” is prettry bad IMO

There are some good unreleased songs from that period. Why he gave us “Moonlight Rider” I’ll never know. It’s a terrible song. Neil doing a polka song is a bit much!!

Why not “Long Nights Hold On?” “I’m Saying I’m Sorry and then I’m Saying Goodnight?” “Positive Vibes?”

  1. Angel above my head

is my favorite song from that era, I really don’t understand why it wasn’t released. The Story of my life could have been such a great album.

    1. respose to better days

I assume you didn’t purchase the” In My Lifetime” box set either.  Angel Above My Head was included in a shortened version.  Are you talking about releasing as a single at that time.  Don’t forget Neil wasn’t really getting any airplay exposure on the radio in the ’90’s.

      1. I have in my lifetime

I mean’t wasn’t released in the eighties on an album when Neil presented it, it was effectively rejected and finally came out on in my lifetime. It’s a beautiful song that I think could have been a hit.

  2. Wonder why Neil chose "Moonlight Rider" over "I'm Your Man" (from unreleased The Story Of My Life)

One is a very oldtimey country polka song that sounds like it was written for Glen Cambell in 1969.The other just a catchy 80’s pop song full of heart (with sentiments that most people could relate to)

I’m also suprised that “Listen” has been ignored again.A fine rocker that Neil wanted on the Beautiful Noise album but Robbie did not.A much better song then the three released so far.

  3. You're out of your mind

Moonlight Rider is a great song.  At least it’s different than so many of the indistinguishable, generic love songs he’s churned out through the 90’s/00’s. If you told me the titles of some of the tracks from Lovescape, Best Years of Our Lives and Three Chord Opera I wouldn’t have the foggiest what they sounded like.

  4. Response to on Melody Road's original post

I guess you never purchased the” In My Lifetime” box set on Columbia/Legacy from the ’90’s.

I’m Saying I’m Sorry is on disc 3!!!

INMO- Moonlight Rider is not a bad song at all.

  5. Long Nights Hold On is on the 50th Collectors Edition

But not included on the 3 unreleased ‘singles’ released to internet streaming services like Spotify,I Heart,Youtube, etc (obviously because in these times, enough streaming of a single and  it boosts the overall album sales)

I was listening to the “Long Nights Hold On” demo on youtube & its a beautiful soulful ballad  with great deep lyrics (“New York City is the loneliest town unless you happen to be lost in L.A.”) The classic brooding but hopeful ND sound ala “Nothing But a Heartache”

Why Capitol or whoever felt that say a polka tinged western or a song mentioning Saving Silverman characters would be a better single I have no clue really.

  6. CD6 of career box

Hello from Germany, just received CareerBox50. CD6 is a gem. Yes, “Long Nights” is included, also the lovely “You Are” and “It Don’t Seem Likely”, among other greats. Anybody noticed, that the latter was on a PostIt shown in the booklet of Melody Road!

    Well done, Neil!!!

        1. Possibly re-done for Melody Road

If you look at the inside front cover of Melody Road CD you’ll see partial a list of songs on the album and “It don’t seem Likely” is on the list.  Also parts of “Easy (To Be In Love) sounds like “Sweet L.A. Days.
