  1. Classic Diamonds doesn't sound like new songs

The last time that Neil was backed by an orchestra,it was the Movie Album

How I would love it to be Classic Diamonds Acoustic instead

    1. NEW CD

Johnny Cash has a new release also, on Columbia records in November or December. also, with the London Phiharmonic Orch. It has Johnny’s songs from the 50’s, 60’s and maybe from the 70’s. One of them is The Ring of Fire.

Neil’s is most likely of the same format. Another version of Sweet Caroline, Holly Holy, etc (?) Ugh!!!

Sounds like Neil’s release will also be old recordings set to the orchestral backing of the RPO.

Not that its automatically a bad thing. Some songs could sound majestic like that.

  3. Naturally...

This was always inevitable and, for me, welcome.

The LSO plus classic vocals. It’s a popular and successful formula. My Elvis and Orbison disks have been most enjoyable – I would say, even surprisingly so as I was cynical at first. I am no longer.

I think at this time, orchestral musicians need some income as live performance has been so curtailed this year.

True music fans should appreciate this more than ever now.

Orchestral accompaniment and arrangement is a valuable element in serious music. I do look forward to hearing how Neil’s music has been treated and how we this might have been executed.

Whatever, I shall enjoy the musical interpretation and skill that will have gone into it.

  5. Music manupilation

Listen, I have the Elvis with the Royal Philharmonic on Vinyl and I’d have to say he never sounded better.ย  But….it’s still a manipulation of splicing his music with the music of the orchestra.ย  I’m surprised this is something Neil would consider since he’s still above ground! I’ll listen to it first on Spotify and if I like it then I’ll probably buy it on vinyl only.ย  Otherwise it’s just another compilation.

  6. The Songs

Beautiful Noise, Hello Again, I Am…I Said, I’m a Believer

Song Sung Blue, September Morn, America, Holly Holy

You Don’t Bring Me Flowers, Play Me, Love on the Rocks

Heartlight, I’ve Been This Way Before, Sweet Caroline

After listening to Heartlight, can’t say I’m super excited. I was hoping for one last hurrah with original songs, but my guess is the well has gone dry.

  7. where did you read the song list?

I’ve always been a bit lukewarm about Heartlight but will keep an open mind. I am sure this will be a beautifully produced album. I just hope it isnt in place of an album of new original songs.

  8. New album

Donโ€™t think this is the new album. Just a in between.

Listening to Heartlight; i miss the pepper And bite that he did with LSO in the Songs Happy Xmas and Someone who believes in you (Lovescape).

  9. New Album

I think you may be right Alex. This is clearly an album aimed at the Christmas market. In March Neil definitely referred to a duet with Stevie Wonder and a subsequent article in the Daily Mirror hinted at new music and an album that reflected on his life. My guess is that there is something else lined up for 2021 which may get released around the time the musical debuts which I would have thought is likely to be next Autumn given that Broadway remains closed until the end of May 2021. Just personal speculation of course!

  10. Iโ€™ve been this way before

the only song in the list that is interesting done in a classical version because it was ment on de JLS sondtrack. Would have been great with the arrangements of ย Lee Holdridge. Donโ€™t like the flat Celine Dion/Richard Marx arrangements (Neil back in the late eighties). Itโ€™s musically just what was already there, but now drowned in violins and horns.

  11. Where is Don Was & Rick Rubin when you need them?

How cool would these songs sound just unplugged? Now over-arranged 70’s and 80’s pop songs get a whole classical orchestra to drown out the guitar melody and indeed everything else.

I look forward to “Iโ€™ve been this way before” for the reasons that you mentioned but not much else.

  12. The producer looks like he worked with Celine Dion

I think David Campbell would have been a better fit for producer/arranger. He arranged the first christmas album for Neil as well as HBD and 12 songs.
